Armenian Mobster Gets Ten Years

Robert Terdjanian was sentenced yesterday in Manhattan to ten years in prison. The reputed co-leader of an Armenian crew known as as the Mirzoyan-Terdjanian Organization which was based out of LA and New York will be serving time for his role in a massive Medicare fraud scheme. "Manhattan federal prosecutors say the operation stole the identities of doctors and patients to set up 118 'phantom' medical clinics that submitted more than $100 million in phony claims." In Reggio Calabria Italian police captured 57- year- old Sebastiano Pelle, reputed Calabrian mobster after sixteen years on the lam. Pelle was wanted on charges of mafia ties, international drug and weapons trafficking, and other crimes. Six members from the the Pelle-Votari clan were rubbed out by the rival Nirta-Strangio clan in 2007 outside a pizzeria in Duisburg, Germany. Mario Balotelli Gives Evidence In Anti-Mafia Case

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli stated to Italian prosecutors he saw a table full of drugs in relation to an investigation into organized crime in Naples. Balotelli immediately asked to be returned to his hotel upon seeing the drugs after being given a lift on a moped by Marco Iorio, a suspected Camorra leader who is under investigation over alleged money-laundering. Speaking as a witness, Balotelli said he was standing “about 10 metres from a table which contained bags of drugs on it”. Balotelli said he was only in the area of Scampia visiting friends and he has always maintained he did not know some of the people he met there had alleged associations with organized crime in Italy. “I didn’t know who those people were, that day in Naples there were always many people around me,” Balotelli said in June. Mafiosi Tied To German Pizzeria Massacre Out Of Prison

Three mafia members connected to a notorious shooting in Duisburg have been released from prison in Italy due to a technicality and a fourth man has escaped while receiving treatment at a hospital, according to reports. German public broadcaster ARD network reported Tuesday evening that a judge failed to produce a written document related to the three men’s convictions within a prescribed time period meaning they had to be released according to Italian law. The fourth man was sentenced to 13 years in prison for helping organize the 2006 murder of Maria Strangio, the wife of a mafia member. The man had been placed under house arrest due to poor health but escaped during a hospital stay, ARD said. Strangio’s murder is said to have provoked the 2007 killing of six mafia members outside a Duisburg pizzeria. The shooting shocked Germany and led to a cooperative police action with Italy to root out organized crime in the region. Although it is not clear how the three released prisoners were involved in the killings, police said they were not the main organizers, who remain imprisoned. City Manager Roberto Mancini dismissed fears that Mario Balotelli’s involvement in an investigation into a Naples mafia group will become a distraction and insisted that the Italian forward still has a future at Manchester City. Balotelli returned to Manchester on Friday after spending Thursday in Naples,where he was to visit the Public Prosecutor’s office to discuss a trip he took around the Naples area of Scampia, in the company of Salvatore Silvestri of the Lo Russo clan and Biagio Esposito of the Scissionisti clan. Scampia is a stronghold of the Camorra mafia group. The 21 year-old is said to have been accompanied on his visit, in June last year, by a suspected Camorra leader, although Balotelli has claimed not to have known the people he was with at the time. “No, I’m not worried about Mario.” Mancini said. “For him, the investigation will not be a distraction.
