Espresso

(More recipes on the bottom of page)

There is nothing like a fresh cup of espresso. I am a coffee lover but not a geek so please don’t post about the “must have espresso beans” and the best “espresso machines.” Keep in mind the following;

To make the best espresso, you need the best bean you can get. You should choose an Italian roasted espresso bean if you can, dark and rich. You can use any variety of bean so long as its dark roasted, but those that are specially roasted to be espresso are the best.

If you do buy the coffee in bean form you need a grinder, again there are many choices and many opinions. Like most things it’s a matter of taste. I prefer beans but you can buy pre-ground espresso beans. Keep in mind the pre-ground has been sitting in the can for who knows how long and in my opinion you haven’t had a real cup of coffee till you taste beans that have been ground seconds ago. All this may be moot because a real cup of espresso “requires’ a shot of Anisette to round it out. There is no other way to drink espresso but with a shot Anisette, no substitutes such as Sambuca etc.

A clean pot or machine is a must and the water must be cold. Watch the video, it gives an idea of how to brew espresso at home and it's fun to watch. Its all about enjoying and sharing, that's what good Italian food and drink is all about. Don’t forget the Anisette, you wont be sorry.
