2000:

Massachusetts, US: Feb. 23, after spending nearly five years in prison awaiting a trial that never materialized, Salemme made a plea bargain and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. The 66-year old Salemme, who found out that his two co-defendants in the case, Flemmi and Bulger, were long-time FBI informants and had used him, told U. S. District Court Judge Mark L. Wolf, "I learned my lesson. Shame on me if I didn’t know after what happened to me in the last 35 years with my best friend (Flemmi). Shame on me if it happens again."

England, Europe: The BBC reports organized crime controls one business in five in Italy, according to statistics released by the country's leading trade association. A conference organized by the association in Milan said that the Mafia controlled about 20% of all businesses.

2003:

Providence, RI, US: A jury fails to find Vito DeLuca guilty of four charges of aiding and abetting a sports-betting operation. The authorities say the ring brought in more than $600,000 in one month in late 1999.The jury, in Superior Court, Providence, deliberated for two days and remained deadlocked.

2005:

Providence, RI, US: Matthew L. Guglielmetti Jr. a capo regime in the Patriarca crime family was arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He was accused of agreeing to protect a major shipment of cocaine that was passing through Rhode Island.

Providence, RI, US: Guglielmetti signed a plea agreement admitting that he conspired to distribute and possessed with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine. Receives twelve years to serve.

Cranston, RI: Richard Gomes is released from the ACI and has trouble getting back "in" with the family.

2006:

North Providence: Richard “Red Bird” Gomes, a violent mobster died quietly in his apartment in North Providence.The police said that it appeared Gomes, 73, died of natural causes.

2007:

Cranston, RI: Gerald M. “Gerry” Tillinghast, a mob figure who had spent nearly 30 years in prison for an underworld killing, was paroled from the Adult Correctional Institutions. Tillinghast, 60, will live in western Cranston with a family member. In the ’60s and ’70s, Tillinghast was known as an enforcer for the Patriarca crime family. He and several other mobsters from Rhode Island were accused of participating in the $3-million Bonded Vault heist in 1975 in Providence. A Superior Court jury declined to convict him of criminal charges. In Nov. of 1978  Tillinghast and his older brother, Harold were arrested for killing mob loan shark George Basmajian in a stolen car near T.F. Green Airport in Warwick. At trial, Gerald Tillinghast was convicted of unloading nine rounds into Basmajian. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Johnston, RI: Anthony "The Saint" St. Laurent Sr. is indicted for solicitation to commit a crime of violence, to wit: murder-for-hire, after trying to recruit a hitman to kill made family member Bobby DeLuca. There had been bad blood between Deluca and St Laurent for years after DeLuca told anyone who would listen that St Laurent was an informant for the FBI and State Police.

Providence,RI: Rhode Island State Police conduct "Operation Mobbed UP." Nicholas S. “Nicky” Pari, 71, Gerald M. “Gerry” Tillinghast, 62 and fifteen others are arrested on charges ranging from RICO, drug- and gun-dealing to gambling and theft to counterfeiting, fencing stolen goods and insurance fraud.

East Providence,RI: Nicholas Pari reveals the location of the body of Joseph "Joe Onions" Scanlon who disappeared in 1978. Investigators find the remains behind the Lisboa apartment complex on Bullocks Point Ave in East Providence. After days of excavating the site, authorities uncovered the remains which are postively identified as Scanlon's. The State Medical Examiner's Office states Scanlon died from a gunshot wound to the head.

2008:

Providnce,RI: A connection between outlaw motorcycle gangs and the New England Mob is revealed.

Cranston,RI: Frank "Bobo" Marrapese is released from the ACI.


Cranston,RI: Gerald "Gerry" Tillinghast is accused of running an illegal drug, gun and gambling operation , along with fellow Patriarca Crime Family associate Nicholas "Nicky" Pari. Tillinghast was released from the ACI in January 2007, after spending nearly 30 years in prison for killing loan shark George Basmajian.

Providence,RI: Nicholas Manocchio, an employee of the Laborers International Union; Harold Tillinghast, a former union official; and construction contractor Gerald Diodati pleaded not guilty during their arraignment Friday in U.S. District Court in Providence.Federal prosecutors say Diodati and Tillinghast were involved in a scheme to win demolition work through illegal payments. Manocchio allegedly accepted gifts from an undercover FBI agent posing as a contractor looking for work in Rhode Island.

 

 

2009:

Providence,RI: Robert DeLuca, reputed Patriarca capo who was the purported target of an alleged murder-for-hire scheme by fellow capo Anthony "The Saint" St. Laurent, was released from probation supervision.


 

Nahant,Mass: Gennaro "Jerry" Angiulo, the former Patriarca crime family underboss who ran Boston for 20 years until he was arrested by the FBI in the 80s, died at the age of 90 and was buried with full military honors.

Providence,RI: Rhode Island State Police continue their mob investigation with "Operation Mobbed Up Multiplies" an additional thirty subjects are arrested.

Boston,Mass: Carmen “The Cheeseman” DiNunzio is sentenced to six years in prison for bribing an undercover FBI agent posing as a state official to try to win a $6 million contract on Boston’s Big Dig highway project.



Providence,RI: Sources report Luigi "Baby Shacks" Manocchio retires and leadership shifts to Boston Mass. under Peter Limone and his under boss Carmine "Big Cheese" DiNunzio. The last time this situation existed was the early 90's. Both have their legal problems and this may be a temporary situation. R.I. family allegedly are to report to Robert "Bobby" DeLuca who will be the conduit to Boston.

Boston,Mass: Arthur Gianelli, brother-in-law of imprisoned FBI agent/Whitey gangster John Connolly, an associate of reputed Patriarca underboss Carmen "The Cheese Man" DiNunzio, was sentenced to the maximum of twenty-two years and seven months in prison. He was convicted last April on hundreds of charges including racketeering, arson, illegal gambling, money laundering, and attempted extortion.

Boston,Mass: Mary Ann Gianelli, the wife of reputed Patriarca associate Arthur Gianelli and sister-in-law of former FBI agent John J. Connolly Jr., has pleaded guilty "to 19 counts of racketeering, money laundering, filing false tax returns, and illegal structuring of cash transactions" in connection with an illegal gambling ring. Under a plea agreement the government dropped an additional 141 money laundering counts against her.

Providence, RI: Anthony "The Saint" St. Laurent Sr. fires his attorney and asks for a three week extension on his murder for hire case.

Providence,RI: Nicholas Manocchio, a former director of the Laborer’s New England Region Organizing Fund, was sentenced to three years probation. U.S. District Court Judge William Smith also banned Manocchio from seeking or holding any positions in labor organizations. He also must pay $2,500 in fines and perform 200 hours of community service for each year of probation.Manocchio pleaded guilty in July to accepting gifts from an undercover FBI agent posing as a contractor looking for business in Rhode Island. Harold Tillinghast Jr. was sentenced to two years probation. Smith also prohibited him from holding any labor position. Tillinghast must pay $4,500 in fines and perform community service.Tillinghast, a former organizer with the Laborers International Union of North America, pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in May. Gerald Diodati, was sentenced to two years probation. Diodati, a Coventry contractor, pleaded guilty to conspiring to make unlawful payments to union officials. Authorities said Diodati and Tillinghast were involved in a scheme to win demolition work through illegal payments.



Cranston,RI: Jerry King, who identified himself as the R.I. State Police informant in "Operation Mobbed Up" contacts a local TV station to complain that the police are not holding up their end of the bargain. He goes on to state that he was shot twice and there is a $50,000.00 contract on him for his part in the Mobbed Up operation..

Boston,Mass: A Massachusetts man who is is a leading member of the Colombo crime family has been indicted along with three others on organized crime charges involving five states. Ralph Deleo of Somerville is accused of being the leader of a group known as the "Deleo Crew" that sold cocaine and marijuana in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Arkansas, New York and Florida. The group also is accused of loansharking and extortion. The 66-year-old Deleo and three other men are charged with conspiracy to violate the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Prosecutors say Deleo was the "street boss" of the Colombo family of La Cosa Nostra, one of the five LCN families in New York City.
