    The Fed’s have unsealed an 18 count indictment charging nine defendants variously with racketeering , racketeering conspiracy, extortion and other crimes relating to their involvement with the Luchese and/or Bonanno organized crime families. Five of the members named in the indictment were already detained on various charges. The remaining four were arrested and charged on Wednesday.

    The defendants were identified by the government as:

    ANTHONY MANNONE, also known as “Anthony from Elmont” and “Anthony from the Five Towns”
    Age: 70   Captain – Bonanno family.

    DOMENICO CUTAIA
    Age: 74   Captain – Luchese family

    CARLO PROFETA
    Age: 68   Acting Captain – Luchese family

    SALVATORE CUTAIA, also known as “Sal”
    Age: 50  Soldier – Luchese family

    ERIC MAIONE
    Age: 34 Associate-Luchese family

    JOSEPH CUTAIA, also known as “Joey,” “Joseph DeGerolamo” and “The Kid”
    Age: 32  Associate – Luchese family

    JEROME CARAMELLI, also known as “Jerry”
    Age: 40  Associate – Bonanno family

    NICHOLAS BERNARDO
    Age: 25

    JOHN PAUL CRUZ
    Age: 29

    The Four arrested on Wednesday were Profeta, Mannone, Maione, and Caramelli. The charges include counts pertaining to Mannone, Caramelli, Profeta, Salvatore Cutaia, and others, engaging in extortionate means to collect money from three individuals involved in a gambling operation run by Caramelli. Wiretaps recorded Mannone and Caramelli, with support from Profeta and Salvatore Cutaia, threatened the individuals with physical harm for failing to repay their debt. If convicted the mob members face maximum sentences of up to 20 years in jail.
